ARTIST: CHAN YUK KEUNG
TITLE: Mutation: Fish X Bird
MEDIUM: MASONITE, CARTON PAPER, SHEET METAL, WOOD
LOCATION: G.O.D. , CAUSEWAY BAY

The idea for this work is drawn from Darwin's evolution theory. Whereas all lives originated from the sea, they gradually adapted to land, and finally the sky. The streamlined features of fish and birds show these species are particularly designed for traveling through the water and air. One can imagine that the extension of a fish's fin resembles the wingspan of a bird.

Among the machines made by mankind to conquer the sea and sky, the boat and the airplane perhaps are the most appropriate devices to be used as metaphors for the above mentioned species. This sculpture is in fact an amalgamation of a boat and a plane, thus symbolizing evolution from fish to bird.
