Sabrina M. Y. Fung - Profile
Sabrina Fung has actively participated in cross-cultural, multi-media activities since 1980. She and her company, sabrina fung fine arts, consult and place artworks for major public and commercial environments in Asia, Europe and North America. Ms. Fung has also curated and organised a wide variety of cultural events to promote public art, including in 2005, she was invited by the Hong Kong Arts Development to curate the Hong Kong Pavilion for the 51 st Venice Biennale in Italy.
Ms. Fung began her work in the arts as a professional, avant-garde pianist living and performing in New York throughout the 1980s. At that time, she established sabrina fung gallery, which was at the forefront of introducing leading, contemporary Asian artists to the New York art scene and curated numerous international art exhibitions, among others a major exhibition in 1986 by overseas contemporary Hong Kong artists in Montreal, Canada.
Since returning to live in Hong Kong in 1990, Ms. Fung has organised and curated several not-for-profit art projects, such as the recently launched www.hongkongartweb.com (a website on the current Hong Kong art scene), Art Windows, ARTscope Hong Kong 2000 and various public programs in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia. These programs were presented by SFFA Projects, which was formed by Ms. Fung to promote public art awareness and contemporary art appreciation locally.
Ms. Fung has been an art advisor to the Hong Kong City University Gallery since 1999 and is currently appointed as a member of the Museum Advisory Group of the Consultative Committee on the West Kowloon Cultural District.
